Galentines Reading List

As I've mentioned in my previous posts, this month is Soap & Glory's month of Galentines. It's all about celebration of your friends, femininity and all things #girlpower. Today I decided to compose a list of inspirational reads kept in the theme of badass women. You may want to pick them up yourself or perhaps gift one to your best friend.

Sheryl Sandberg is the COO of Facebook and got named one of the Most Powerful Women in Business by Fortune magazine. This book is relatable on so many levels - we are about to start climbing the career ladder and could all use some tips. Sandberg packed this read with interesting insights on being a woman in the world of business and working within the most successful companies. She also brings up the important issue of inequality in the workplace - and what changes we can introduce. An essential read for any girl who wants to tackle the stereotypes and take her career into her own hands.

Are you a girl in STEM? Is any of your friends? Maybe you're not, but you just adore reading about fearless women and their contribution to science? This book gives you a comprehensive list of women who stopped at nothing to make this world a better place. It includes both the 'classics' such as Maria Skłodowska-Curie and the less known ones that deserve recognition beyond words. 'Women in Science...' is complete with beautiful illustrations that make this read all the more enjoyable. An ultimate inspo if you ask me.

This book is a short, but nevertheless an important one. It's an essay based on a Ted talk the author gave in 2012 and it sheds a new light on the often confusing topic of feminism. It discusses issues such as what it means to be a woman and a feminist in the modern world, how gender inequality affects men and children and why we should all consider ourselves feminists. Adichie's essay is well constructed and argued. It's a great start for anyone who fell victim to stereotypes of who a feminist is, but also for you to give yourself a shot of inspiration and a reminder of what you believe in.

We all know who Sophia Amoruso is - she's the ultimate success story, the founder of Nasty Gal and the author of '#GIRLBOSS'. This book is more of a piece or admire than to read. Think of it as an inspiration board - it's filled with artsy photographs, inspirational quotes and short passages about the philosophy of Nasty Gal. It's your perfect coffee table book - a work of art and a statement in itself.

Among all of the other youtubers' releases, this definitely stands out. Estée Lalonde is a beauty and lifestyle youtuber, but most of all, just a really cool person you wish you were friends with. Her book touches upon a range of topics from beauty to body image and mental health. 'Bloom' rests somewhere between a memoir and a lifestyle book, but it's Estée's personality that really shines through. She's funny, charming and very, very relatable. I'd say it's a rather light read, but prepare to get emotional - it's also raw and honest. Like a conversation with a good friend. Highly recommended.
